Orthodontics

Is a specialized field of dentistry which conducts preventive and curative procedures in order to correct dental and skeleton anomalies and establish proper bite and balanced face look.

Orthodontic therapy is used both during the person’s growth and development and later in life. It is important for the patients because people with proper teeth, big smile and attended mouth cavity are self-confident, they smile willingly and often, which contributes to their well-being and of course their better social acceptance.

The first visit to your orthodontic doctor should be done at the age of 7.

The anomalies are best treated at the age of 8-14 although the age limit for orthodontic therapy does not exist.
Sometimes patients are treated even earlier. This is called early or interceptive orthodontic therapy thanks to which a later tooth extracting can be prevented, an anomaly such as a reverse or crossed bite fixed, thumb and lip sucking and mouth breathing prevented.

In older patients orthodontic therapy can fix forwarded, indent, spaced teeth and close the gaps made by teeth extracted in the earlier period. It is also possible to extract teeth that had never been extracted from the jaw bone before. Those are so called impaction teeth (those are mostly caninces, but can also be incisors, premolars…).

In elderly patients by orthodontic therapy we put teeth in the right position for the bridge making or implant building (preprosthetic orthodontic preparation). It is important to notice that before making either mobile or fixed appliances caries, plaque films and calculus have to be removed from teeth.
